What Is Public Outreach?
Public Outreach is how Al‑Anon lets people know that help is available for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking. Many people who could be helped by Al‑Anon have never heard of us, or do not realize the program is for them and not the drinker.
Following our Traditions, we rely on attraction rather than promotion. We do not advertise, recruit, or campaign. Instead, we make accurate information easy to find where people — and the professionals who serve them — are already looking: libraries, hospitals, doctors’ offices, schools, courts, and treatment centers throughout the Hampton Roads area.
Find Help Anytime, Anywhere
You don’t have to wait for a meeting time or drive across town to begin. Al‑Anon’s World Service Office offers several free, anonymous ways to connect with the program right from your phone or computer — in English, Spanish, or French.
Meetings in Your Pocket

Literature & Displays
We place Conference Approved Literature, pamphlets, and posters in waiting rooms, libraries, community boards, and treatment facilities across Hampton Roads.
Speakers & Presentations
Al‑Anon members can speak to professional staff, students, civic groups, and treatment programs about what Al‑Anon is, who it helps, and how to make a referral.
Community Events & Media
Look for our information table at local health fairs and recovery events, and we respond to media inquiries and share public service announcements — always protecting members’ personal anonymity.
